10 Survey Questions

Facebook Survey
In my survey I asked 10 questions. The first question I asked was age--which weren't particularly varied because the targeted audience doesn't have much difference. The Next question I asked concerned gender. 9 out of 13 people who replied were female. Question three confirmed that everyone had a Facebook, question four asked why the person didn't have a Facebook (everyone, however had one).
The next question that I asked "why do you use Facebook" gave some interesting insites into the reasons people have Facebook. Also everyone had keep in contact with people, but I found interesting that people also use it to keep in contact with club members / people they work with. This shows that it is also being used to sort of build the closeness of the organization and make it easier to get to know people. What I also found interesting and surprising is that when asked about privacy settings most people said only friends could view profile. I had previously thought that more people had it more open to the public or at least friends of friends / networks. When asked how people would feel if Facebook know longer existed, how people would feel, the answers were really split..some equited it with the end of the world, others said they would heardly be bothered. The guys in general seemed less attached to it.

Wiki websites
This is a really interesting clip about integrating wikis into the classroom, I like it because it is an actual class lecture, so I know the information comes from a valid source. It has a lot of interesting information about moodle.org which is a class management type system. The lecture goes through a slide show and gives an indepth run down of what you should do/expect. It also goes through how to use a wiki and it actually shows you some of the things you can do as they are doing them. It also makes an interesting point; that "learning is increasingly international" and wikis are a good way of bridging the distances. One of the wiki sites they suggest is pbwiki and wikispaces. It also makes the point that wikis can be used with any kind of student because YOU set it up, you are in charge of how students interact with the wiki. You can have students actually managing the wiki and collaborating together but you can also use it as a source for placing all sorts of information or links

this is a neat wiki site that I stumbled upon. I personally like the set up more than wikispaces or pbwiki just because it feels more creative and also because it feels more like a place to search for information then other wiki sites. http://www.wikispaces.com/ is set up more to show you what to do to create one, but not really for sharing the information with other people. http://pbworks.com/ again emphasizes what it can do and how it can be used, but it doesn't interest me in the contents of the wikis themselves, and the wikis on the website aren't really easily searchable. I don't know if you can join http://www.qwiki.com/ for free, I tried to join and it didn't work for some reason, but I really like the clean setup. It makes me want to use it.

I really like that this website starts with explaining some of the many benefits to using wikis because it helped me to 1. get a clearer picture of what wikis are and how they can be used. Then it went into a little bit on how to begin starting one yourself, which I found helpful for someone with only limited knowledge of wikis

Social Networking
What are some of the findings in the Pew Report that intrigued you?
I found the 55% of teens with online social networks to be lower than I originally expected. I only know one person without a social network in college, and when I was in high school everyone I knew had one. However, I guess teenager includes younger teens like 13-14 where it is less common to have a social network. Although, I would argue that it is more common now to have one then when I was a kid.
What are some of the behaviors displayed by the teens in the videos that intrigued you?
What is up with poor boxxy? It's like she downed a bucket full of sugar before she sat down to do her video.
I remember having a "Gaia" when I was a kid, but I don't remember falling in love with anyone in "two days" and then making a youtube video. I remember being told to only talk to people that I know from school because anyone else is probably some crazy old dude. Appearently she wasn't given the same talk. I am happy that I didn't know about youtube when I was "boxxy" and "sex man's" age, just because I don't think they have a very strong understanding of the possible negative ramifications of posting things like that to the internet. Kids are really smart in some ways, but they're really stupid in others, I am glad I had less public spheres to make a fool of myself when I was a kid.
What were your results from the quiz? Were you surprised? Why or why not?
I am, according to the quiz a "Digital Collaborator" but personally I think this is not accurate. I don't use technology anywhere near that well. I don't even have a smart phone. I love the internet and I am on it way to frequently, but that is only because of how useful it is for the college lifestyle. When I go home, I can go a week without getting on the internet at all. I would call myself more of an Ambivalent Networker--I like the internet, it has its uses, but sometimes I like to step back from it and get away from all the noise.
"If you are a Digital Collaborator, you use information technology to work with and share your creations with others. You are enthusiastic about how ICTs help you connect with others and confident in your ability to manage digital devices and information. For you, the digital commons can be a camp, a lab, or a theater group – places to gather with others to develop something new."

Lesson Plan One Reflection
What I learned from designing this first lesson plan for class was...
that is is really important to have a solid idea of what you want students to learn before you begin creating your lesson plan. As has once been said in this class "start with the end in mind." It is also important to try and focus the content, if to much information is hit lightly, but not in depth, student learning is more shallow and surface level, rather than a firm understanding of any one objective.
What I want to know more about is...
Applying a lesson plan, I can plan until I am blue in the face, but if I cannot actually put the plan to use it is not really much good. Plus, putting a lesson plan to practice seems like it would really help me get an in depth understanding of how a lesson plan works and how the planning process compares to the action process.

Lesson Plan Assessment Review
http://www.lessonplanspage.com/LAWhatIsGenre59.htm
In this lesson plan the author clearly identifies the objective and how he or she is going to go about achieving the objective. The first requirement for assessment is identifying what exactly the teacher wants to assess. This lesson plan makes that clear. It also has a point during the lesson where the teacher can assess learning without having to give a formal assessment which takes time, and probably won't be appropriate at that point. The final product of the project is also a form of assessment which can help the teacher see, if the students grasped the objectives or not.

This lesson plan I particularly liked. It is very clear. It has clear objective. Step by step instructions. Supplementary assignments, a way to bring in parents and much more. It also includes important things to consider when assessing students, and provides the educator with a link to a rubric maker so that the teacher can make a rubric with his or her personal expectations making the lesson plan more adaptable. If student assessment is meeting the benchmarks of the rubric, then it stands to reason that they are understanding the content. It also comes from a reputable source, not some random teacher somewhere.

Assessment Links
Please find 3 links for websites that talk about how to assess learning. Post these in your Learning Journal under the title Assessment Links. Provide two sentences explaining why you chose these links and what value the information within the link provides.
http://whatedsaid.wordpress.com/2010/09/15/10-ways-to-assess-learning-without-tests/
This website is helpful when considering the type of assessment to employ in the classroom. It offers several different ideas for evaluating learning creatively rather than in the typical exam format; however, it doesn't go into much detail and does not provide information on the negatives and positives of each format.
http://www.cshe.unimelb.edu.au/assessinglearning/01/index.html
Testing information in a variety of ways is important, but one also needs to be aware of issues surrounding assessment so as to try and overcome some of these problems. This Website focuses on important issues that students and teachers must detail with, it also takes an international standpoint, which is helpful in getting one to look outside of personal culture.
http://www.ntlf.com/html/lib/bib/assess.htm
This website offers a lot of good, quick, and simple ways to test student knowledge without neccessarily having a full blown high-stake examination. It also highlights the importance of having objectives for learning and for assessment.
